DURHAM REGION FURNACE SERVICE

Booking From the Durham End of the Service Area

Ajax sits at the eastern end of our run, alongside Whitby and Oshawa .

We cover it properly rather than treating it as an afterthought, but booking earlier in the day gives you the best chance of a same day slot here, because the vans work their way east.

Call in the morning during a cold snap and the office will tell you straight away what is realistic rather than promising a window we cannot hold.

What Goes Wrong With Furnaces in Ajax

Much of Ajax is subdivision housing built from the 1980s onward, with newer development north of Taunton Road. This means many homes have high efficiency condensing furnaces with their own common fault patterns.

01

Blocked Condensate Traps

Blocked condensate traps and drains are common problems in high efficiency condensing furnaces and often trigger pressure switch errors.

02

Pressure Switch Errors

Pressure switch faults can interrupt furnace operation and may indicate a blocked condensate system.

03

Iced Vent Terminations

Intake and exhaust vents can ice over after freezing rain, creating faults similar to condensate drainage problems.

04

Dirty Flame Sensors

A furnace that lights and then shuts down after a few seconds may have a dirty flame sensor.

05

Ignition and Control Problems

Failed igniters and control boards can prevent the furnace from operating reliably.

06

Inducer Motor Problems

A worn inducer motor can affect furnace operation and may make unusual noises before failing.

07

Conventional Furnace Wear

Older properties closer to the lake may have conventional furnaces with age-related component failures.

Filters Cause More Calls Than Any Single Part

A blocked furnace filter is one of the simplest problems to prevent, but it can cause a working furnace to shut itself down.

01

Restricted Airflow

A blocked filter restricts airflow through the furnace, causing the heat exchanger to overheat.

02

Safety Limit Shutdowns

When the furnace overheats, a limit switch may shut it down. To a homeowner, this can look exactly like a broken furnace.

03

Regular Filter Changes

Check standard one inch filters monthly during heating season and replace them every one to three months, depending on conditions.

Filter maintenance tip: Pets, renovation work and household dust affect how quickly a filter becomes dirty. Thicker media filters can last longer but still have a service interval. If your furnace locks out intermittently, the filter is one of the first things to rule out.
FURNACE SAFETY

Heat Exchangers and Carbon Monoxide

Any furnace inspection we do includes the heat exchanger, because a crack in it is the one fault that is not a cost question.

A cracked heat exchanger can allow combustion products into the air you breathe, so the furnace is shut down until the exchanger or the unit is replaced.

On a newer furnace, the heat exchanger itself is often covered by the manufacturer warranty. On an older one, replacing the furnace is usually the answer.

Carbon monoxide alarms are essential. Ontario requires carbon monoxide alarms in homes with fuel-burning appliances. Check your alarms regularly and replace them according to their manufacturer's expiration date, which is often around ten years.

If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building immediately and contact emergency services from outside.
