What to Have Ready
The call is shorter, and the technician arrives better prepared, if you have these to hand.
- The equipment. Make, model and rough age, which is usually on a label inside the furnace door or on the outdoor unit.
- The symptom. No heat, cold air, no cooling, strange noise, water on the floor, or an error code showing on the control board.
- When it started, and whether anything changed just before, such as a power outage, a thermostat swap or a filter change.
- Your address and postal code, so the office can confirm the window and the travel time.

There is no charge for the diagnostic when it leads to a repair. Repair and installation pricing is quoted up front and approved by you before work starts, so the invoice matches what you agreed. Urgent Calls
No heat in a Toronto January and no cooling in a July heat wave are the two calls that cannot wait, and they go to the front of the day’s schedule. If you smell gas, get everyone out of the house first. Do not touch light switches, appliances, garage door openers or your phone inside the building, and do not start a vehicle in an attached garage, because any of those can provide an ignition source. From outside, call 911 or the Enbridge Gas emergency line, then call us. If your furnace has shut itself down on a safety lockout, do not keep resetting it. The lockout is protecting you from something and it needs a technician.
New Systems and Quotes
If you are pricing a new furnace, air conditioner or heat pump rather than booking a repair, say so when you call, because that visit runs differently. It involves a load calculation for the house, a look at the existing ductwork and electrical service, and a written quote rather than an on the spot price.
